Great Plains Network - Kansas State University Agronomy Application Deep Dive
In May 2019, staff members from the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC) and members of the Great Plains Network (GPN) attending their Annual Meeting meeting met with researchers at Kansas State University (KSU) for the purpose of an Application Deep Dive training session. The goal of this training session was to help characterize the requirements for an agronomy application, to enable cyberinfrastructure support staff to better understand the needs of the researchers they support, and to offer training to GPN members to be able to conduct these on their own. Material for this event includes both the written documentation from the agronomy application at KSU, details about the infrastructure setup at KSU, and also a writeup of the discussion that took place in person on May 20, 2019.
EPOC, GPN, and KSU recorded a set of action items for this use case, continuing the ongoing support and collaboration. These are a reflection of the case study report, and in person discussion

Kennesaw State University Scientific Deep Dive
EPOC uses the Deep Dive process to discuss and analyze current and planned science, research, or education activities and the anticipated data output of a particular use case, site, or project to help inform the strategic planning of a campus or regional networking environment. This includes understanding future needs related to network operations, network capacity upgrades, and other technological service investments. A Deep Dive comprehensively surveys major research stakeholders’ plans and processes in order to investigate data management requirements over the next 5–10 years.
Between August 2021 and October 2021, staff members from the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC) met with researchers and staff from Kennesaw State University (KSU) for the purpose of a Deep Dive into scientific and research drivers. The goal of this activity was to help characterize the requirements for a number of campus use cases, and to enable cyberinfrastructure support staff to better understand the needs of the researchers within the KSU community

University of Wisconsin-Madison Campus-Wide Deep Dive
In June 2019, staff members from the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC) and the University of Wisconsin–Madison Divisionof Information Technology (UW DoIT) met with researchers for the purpose of a Campus-Wide Deep Dive. The goal of this meeting was to help characterize the requirements for a number of research and educational activities, and to enable cyberinfrastructure support staff to better understand the needs of researchers. Material for this event includes both the written documentation from nine projects, and the campus technology organization, but also a writeup of the discussion that took place in person. The Case Studies highlighted the ongoing challenges that the University of Wisconsin–Madison will face in the coming years to support, encourage, and grow several emerging and established use cases.
The University of Wisconsin–Madison received an NSF award to help support upgrading the campus network in 2012, specifically to include a Science DMZ and monitoring equipment. However, there is a currently identified need to refresh equipment and identify and work more closely with current campus researchers. Updates to the state network, as well as the campus, are being planned and were discussed during this event.
As part of the overall review, the necessity of working more closely with research teams as they are still in the planning phase was discussed so that DoIT can better understand and adapt to changes in requirements as the research demands grow over time . Additional challenges with securing sensitive data, cybersecurity, and supporting collaborations were also discussed

University of Central Florida Campus-Wide Deep Dive
EPOC uses the Deep Dive process to discuss and analyze current and planned science use cases and anticipated data output of a particular use case, site, or project to help inform the strategic planning of a campus or regional networking environment. This includes understanding future needs related to network operations, network capacity upgrades, and other technological service investments. A Deep Dive comprehensively surveys major research stakeholders’ plans and processes in order to investigate data management requirements over the next 5–10 years.
Deep Dives help ensure that key stakeholders have a common understanding of the issues and the actions that a campus or regional network may need to undertake to offer solutions. The EPOC team leads the effort and relies on collaboration with the hosting site or network, and other affiliated entities that participate in the process. EPOC organizes, convenes, executes, and shares the outcomes of the review with all stakeholders.
Between December 2020 and August 2021, staff members from the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC) met with researchers and staff at University of Central Florida (UCF) for the purpose of a Campus-Wide Deep Dive into research drivers. The goal of this meeting was to help characterize the requirements for five campus research use cases and to enable cyberinfrastructure support staff to better understand the needs of the researchers they support

University of Cincinnati Campus-Wide Deep Dive
In April 2019, staff members from the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC) and the The Ohio Academic Resources Network (OARnet) met with faculty and staff from the University of Cincinnati to perform a Campus-Wide Deep Dive. The goal of this interaction was to help characterize a number of scientific and educational drivers for the entire campus, and to enable cyberinfrastructure support staff to better understand the needs of the researchers they support. Material for this event includes both the written documentation from the University of Cincinnati, but also a writeup of the discussion that took place in person on April 26, 2019. Each of the highlighted use case highlights specific challenges, but a number of themes emerged that the campus is encouraged to address. In particular, the lack of available local compute and storage resources is impacting several groups and others can greatly benefit from a fully featured Science DMZ infrastructure to facilitate remote data access and transfer
